The Saudi-led Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen reiterated its commitment to abiding by international law in military operations in order to protect civilians.

In a statement yesterday, the Arab coalition said it has imposed strict rules in accordance with the principles of international humanitarian law and human rights. The rules focus on the identification of military targets through several stages. The coalition constantly updates a list of sites prohibited from being targeted, notably those with civilian presence, places of worship, diplomatic quarters, government and non-government organizations, and cultural sites. In order to prevent civilian deaths, coalition forces provide advance warning of strikes, as well as train forces in international law.

The Arab coalition defended its military involvement in Yemen in light of increasing Houthi aggression.

In March 2015, Saudi Arabia responded to an appeal for assistance from Yemeni ‎President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi by forming an international coalition and launching military operations in support ‎of the people of Yemen and the legitimate government of Yemen. Saudi Arabia supports all ‎efforts to end the Yemeni crisis.
